Named places a new character can begin, chosen on the create screen and limited by race, class or character.
Starting Locations
A starting location is a named place a new character can begin: "Highfire Gate", "Mayvel Docks", "The Elven Grove". Each one says who may start there — any mix of races, classes and characters — and the player picks on the create screen's Origin step.
A world with none behaves exactly as before: everyone begins at the world's starting location (right-click a map → Set Starting Location).
Where to author it#
Two places, one list:
- Database → Characters → Starting Locations — every start across all maps: make one (pick a map
and a tile), edit, reorder, delete.
- On a map — right-click a tile → Add starting location here… makes one on that tile.
Each starting location shows on its map as an amber 🏁 START badge beside the cyan spawn markers; right-click a badge → Edit starting location… to change it. In Characters → Starting Locations, Show on map opens the map centred on it.
Set one up#
- Right-click the tile where new characters should appear and choose **Add starting location
here… (or open Characters → Starting Locations → + New Starting Location** and pick the map and tile).
- Name it and write the description players read on the create screen.
- Pick which way the character faces when they arrive.
- Leave Only some characters may start here off for a start open to everyone, or tick it and
choose races, classes and characters.
- Tick Default on the one used when a player has nothing to choose.
- Create. It reaches the running game server at once; new characters can pick it.
The fields#
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The card's title on the create screen |
| Description | The card's text |
| Map / Tile | Where the character appears |
| Facing | Which way they face on arrival |
| Only some characters may start here | Off = everyone. On: a character may start here when it matches any ticked race, class or character |
| Default | Used when a player has no choice or picks nothing. There is one default: ticking it on one start clears it from the others |
| Enabled | Off hides it from new characters without deleting it |
The list's ↑ / ↓ set the order the create screen shows them in.
On the create screen#
A new Origin step lists the starts the character may use, and updates as the player changes race, class or character. It hides itself when there is only one (or none) to pick, like the Class and Character steps. Rename, reorder or hide it in Settings → UI / HUD → Character Creator → Steps, and skin its cards with Starting location cards under Card Skins.
What else uses it#
- A return item set to The player's starting location takes them to their own start.
- A player who dies with no spawn point nearer comes back at their own start rather than the world's.
Gotchas#
- The game server checks the pick when the character is made: a start the character may not use is
refused, never trusted.
- Deleting a start does not move anyone. Characters who began there fall back to the world's start for
the two uses above.
- A start on a map the game server does not have is left out of the list.
- Behind the Starting Locations flag (on by default). Off = everyone begins at the world's start.
