Stop a level-100 steamrolling a level-2: match players by power, or put everyone on the same stat sheet.
Fair Matches
Arena fairness is a set of dials on the arena wizard that decide who is matched together and what the match measures. They sit beside Match rules (what a player may bring in) and work with any of them.
Where you'll find it#
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| The fairness question | World Editor → your arena map → Arena setup → Basic rules → Who can queue together? |
| The kit for every player | The same page, under Gear → Same kit for everyone |
| Authoring a kit | Items → Loadout Kits |
The four choices#
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Anyone | Everyone queues together and keeps their own power. Good for open-world-flavoured arenas. |
| Similar power | Players keep their power, but the queue only pairs people of similar Character Power. |
| Compressed | Everyone is measured against one stat sheet. Power above the sheet still counts, but only at the share you choose. Anyone weaker is lifted up to the sheet. |
| Equalised | Everyone plays on exactly the stat sheet. Gear and levels do not matter. |
Matching is by Character Power, not level. A player who trained only combat can read as a low level and hit like a truck, while a well-rounded player reads as a high level and fights poorly. Character Power folds in gear, training and passives, so it measures what actually matters in a fight. A newcomer with no gear scores 100.
Setting up Similar power#
- Open the arena wizard and go to the Basic rules step.
- Set Who can queue together? to Similar power.
- Choose the Power band size. With 50, players at 100 to 149 are matched together, 150 to 199 together, and so on. Smaller is fairer but waits longer.
- Choose how often to Widen the search. Every time that many seconds pass in the queue, the match accepts one more band either side, so nobody waits forever.
Players see their band in the queue panel ("Power 150-199").
Setting up Compressed or Equalised#
- Set Who can queue together? to Compressed or Equalised.
- For Compressed, choose how much of the power above the sheet still counts (10%, 25%, 50% or 75%). Equalised always counts none.
- Set the Level the match shows. Practice bots spawn at this level. Players keep their own level on their nameplate.
- Build the stat sheet. Use Add a stat to the sheet and set a number for each stat you want to govern, such as Health, Attack and Defense.
- Optionally pick a Kit everyone receives. It replaces the player's own gear for the match.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Power above the sheet that still counts | Compressed only. A stronger player keeps this share of the difference between their stat and the sheet. |
| Level the match shows | The level practice bots spawn at. |
| The stat sheet | The numbers everyone is measured against. A stat not on the sheet is left alone. |
| Kit everyone receives | A loadout kit handed to every player in place of their own gear. Optional. |
Players are told when they enter that the match uses a stat sheet. When they leave, are knocked out of the match, or the match ends, their real stats come straight back. Disconnecting mid-match never changes a character: the sheet is only applied while they are inside, and a relog puts them back on the same sheet without a free heal.
Same kit for everyone#
Under Gear, choose Same kit for everyone and pick a loadout kit. Each player's own gear and bag are held at the door and handed back when the match ends. They fight with the kit's gear, consumables and ability bar instead. Their real ability bar is kept safe and returns when they leave.
Gotchas#
- Equalised and Compressed need at least one stat on the sheet. The arena will not save otherwise.
- Gear a player cannot wear is still refused by the usual class and level checks, and by your Match rules if you set any.
- A match with Same kit for everyone ignores the Match rules question for gear, because you chose every piece yourself.
- Bracketing only affects who is matched. Walking into an arena through a portal or NPC, or starting with practice bots, works at any power.
- The sheet's level is for practice bots only. Players keep their own level and name plate.
