Season Sheets
Give a tileset a different look for each season — snowy grass in winter, orange leaves in autumn — without repainting a single map. You paint your maps once with the default sheet; in game, every tile from that tileset switches to the season's sheet when the world season changes, and switches back when the season moves on.
Where to author it#
Map editor → Tilesets panel → double-click a tile of the tileset → Spritesheet step → Season sheets.
The Spritesheet step is the second step of the tileset editor. If you opened the editor on a single tile, it starts on Tile Properties — press Back to reach Spritesheet.
How to set it up#
- Make the season versions of your sheet in your art tool. Start from a copy of the default sheet so every tile stays in exactly the same place, and export it at exactly the same width and height.
- Upload the new sheets to the Media Library (drag them into any media picker, or use the Media page).
- In the Map editor, double-click a tile of the tileset in the Tilesets panel to open the tileset editor, then go to the Spritesheet step.
- Under Season sheets, click the picker for a season (Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter) and choose the sheet. It saves straight away — you'll see its thumbnail and size.
- Repeat for any other season. Leave a season empty to keep the default sheet in that season.
- Publish. Players see the new sheets on the next Publish; the swap happens live, without a reload, the moment the season changes.
To remove a season sheet, clear its picker (the × on the picker). The tileset goes back to the default sheet for that season.
Fields#
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Spring | Sheet used while the world season is spring. Empty = default sheet. |
| Summer | Sheet used while the world season is summer. Empty = default sheet. |
| Autumn | Sheet used while the world season is autumn. Empty = default sheet. |
| Winter | Sheet used while the world season is winter. Empty = default sheet. |
Each picker shows the chosen sheet's thumbnail and its pixel size. The line above the pickers tells you the exact size every season sheet must be.
Gotchas#
- Same size, same layout. Tiles are cut from a season sheet using the default sheet's grid. A sheet of a different pixel size is refused with "Winter sheet is 512×256 but the default sheet is 256×256…". A sheet of the same size but with tiles moved around is not caught — it shows the wrong tiles in game, so always start from a copy of the default sheet.
- Images only. Audio, video, fonts and URLs can't be season sheets.
- Save the tileset first. A brand-new tileset has no Season sheets section until it has been saved once, and it needs a default spritesheet.
- Changes save immediately, separately from the tileset editor's own Save button — closing the editor without saving does not undo them. To undo, clear the picker, or restore an earlier version from History (tileset edits are kept in content history — see History and Trash).
- The map editor always shows the default sheet. There is no season preview in the editor yet; check the result in game (Play / preview) and change the season with the Calendar or a Set Season/Time admin command.
- Which season is it? The world season comes from your Calendar / Seasons settings (see Environment). If seasons are off, the default sheet is used all year.
- Publish carries the images. Season sheets are part of the Media Library, so they go to your server with every Publish — own server and managed server alike. They count as "in use", so media cleanup never deletes them, and the Media Library's Used by lists the tileset.
- AI tools can read and set season sheets with
GET/PUT /api/ai/tilesets/<tileset id>/season-sheets(for example{ "seasonSheets": { "winter": "<media id>", "spring": null }, "dryRun": true }) — same checks as the editor. - There is no feature flag — season sheets follow the world season, so there is nothing to switch on.
