Show the editor itself in another language — a per-browser setting that never changes what your players or your team see.
Editor Language
The editor language is the language the editor itself is shown in — the sidebar, the tool switcher, buttons like Save, Cancel and Delete, list search and counts, confirm dialogs, and the load-failure and crash screens. It is a personal setting for your browser: it never changes what your players see, and it never changes what other people on your team see.
Translating your game's text for players is a different feature — see Localization. The editor language only affects the editor.
Where to author it#
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Editor language | Settings → Editor → Editor language (open Settings from the Database menu) |
Set it up#
- Open Settings from the Database menu.
- Find the Editor section — the same section as the GPU renderer switch.
- Pick a language in Editor language. The editor switches straight away — there is no
Save button and no reload.
- To go back, pick English.
Fields#
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Editor language | The language the editor chrome is shown in on this browser. English is the default. The other choices are Español, Français, Deutsch, Português (Brasil) and 日本語. Pseudo-locale (translation check) shows accented, padded English — see below. |
Languages#
| Language | Pick in the dropdown |
|---|---|
| English (default) | English |
| Spanish | Español |
| French | Français |
| German | Deutsch |
| Brazilian Portuguese | Português (Brasil) |
| Japanese | 日本語 |
Product names such as Studio and Copilot stay in English in every language.
The translation check (pseudo-locale)#
Picking Pseudo-locale (translation check) turns every translatable piece of editor text into accented, slightly longer English wrapped in ⟦ ⟧ — for example Save becomes ⟦Sávé·⟧. Use it to see:
- What is translatable today. Text that changes is on the editor's string catalogue.
Text that stays plain English has not been moved over yet.
- What will not fit a longer language. German and French often run ~30% longer than
English. If a ⟦ ⟧ label is cut off or wraps badly, a real translation will too.
Gotchas#
- Per browser, not per project or per account. The choice is saved on this device.
Another browser, another computer or a private window starts in English.
- Not everything is translated yet. The editor's frame is covered — sidebar and page
names, the menu bar and every submenu, the toolbar, the status bar, the command palette, the Database section list, the tool switcher, list toolbars, pagination, bulk select and bulk edit, delete and discard-changes dialogs, the record editor's header and footer, the Settings page, the Project Health panel, the Publish dialog, connection and crash screens, and playtest / Dry Run messages. Individual editor pages (their field labels and help text) are still English and move over in later updates.
- Problem descriptions stay English for now. Project Health's list of problems and
Publish's preflight messages are written by the checks themselves and are not translated yet. The panel around them is.
- Search works in both languages. In the command palette (Ctrl+K) you can type the
translated name or the English one.
- Regional variants. If your browser or an old setting says
es-MXorpt, theeditor uses Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese.
- Missing words fall back to English. If a language does not have a word yet, you see
the English word — never a blank or a code.
- Names you typed stay as you typed them. The editor language never translates your
content: item names, map names, NPC dialogue and so on are your data, not editor text.
- It does not affect players. The game client follows the player's own language and
your Localization tables.
- There is no feature flag — the setting is always available.
