Keep-awake, vibration and screen rotation settings for players on phones and tablets, plus links that open your installed mobile app straight into your game.
Phone & Tablet Play
Players on phones and tablets get three extra settings, and your mobile app opens straight into your game from a link. Nothing here needs switching on — this page covers what your players see, what you can lock, and what you need to set up for links.
Where to author it#
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| The Phone & tablet settings rows | Players: in game under Settings → Graphics → Phone & tablet. You: Settings → UI / HUD → Panels → Settings (the rows are badged phones & tablets only) — see In-Game Settings Panel |
| Your game's orientation | UI Editor → Layout → Orientation — see Phone layout |
| Links and the app | Export → Android (and Export → iOS on a Mac) — see Exports. The export sets the link scheme and play host from your app id and play URL |
Set it up#
- Pick your game's orientation in UI Editor → Layout → Orientation if it is designed for landscape or portrait. Leave it on Free rotate if both work.
- Optional: in the Settings panel editor, change the Starts at value of any Phone & tablet row, lock it, or hide it.
- Export your Android app. The export writes your link scheme (your app id) and your play host into the app.
- For https links to open the app without an "Open with" prompt, publish an
assetlinks.jsonfile on your play host (see Gotchas). - Share links in the form
your.app.id://play/<your-play-slug>orhttps://<your play host>/play/<your-play-slug>.
Settings#
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Keep screen awake while playing | On | Stops the phone dimming and locking while the game is open. Released as soon as the player switches to another app or tab. |
| Vibration feedback | On | A short buzz when the player is hit (stronger on a heavy hit or crit), when they level up, and when an enchant succeeds. |
| Screen rotation | Game default | Game default follows your orientation. Landscape / Portrait let the player override it. |
Links#
| Link | Opens |
|---|---|
your.app.id://play/<slug> | Your installed app, on that game's join page. |
https://<play host>/play/<slug> | Your installed app once the link is verified; otherwise the browser, as before. |
Gotchas#
- The rows only appear on touch devices. Players on a mouse and keyboard never see them. The choices stay on the device and do not follow the player's account to their PC.
- In a mobile browser tab a rotation lock only sticks in fullscreen. When the phone is held the wrong way the player is asked to turn it, with Go fullscreen and Play anyway buttons. The installed app locks rotation itself and never asks.
- iPhones in Safari cannot vibrate. Apple does not offer vibration to web pages, so Vibration feedback does nothing there.
- A link chooses the game, never the place. Where a player appears is always decided by your server, so a link cannot drop someone into a particular map.
- https links need
assetlinks.json. Servehttps://<play host>/.well-known/assetlinks.jsonlisting your app id and the SHA-256 fingerprint of the key you sign the release with. Until then Android shows an "Open with" chooser. - When the player is offline the app shows its own "Can't reach the game" screen and reconnects by itself once the connection is back.
- There is no feature flag — these settings are always available on touch devices. Hide or lock them per row in the Settings panel editor.
