Define your own currencies: tokens, badges and event coins for shops and rewards.
Currencies
Silver and gold are built in. A currency of your own is money that exists only in your game: arena tokens, guild badges, event coins. Players earn it from events, spend it in a shop you point at it, and see it in the top bar next to silver and gold.
Where you'll find it#
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| The list of your currencies | Database → Economy → Currencies |
| Pay a shop in one | Database → NPCs → Shops → the shop → Paid in |
| Give or take one | An event's Change Gold command → Currency → One of my currencies |
| The top bar chip | Automatic, for every currency with Show in the top bar ticked |
Set one up#
- Open Database → Currencies and press New.
- Type a Name (up to 40 characters). It cannot be Silver or Gold, and two currencies cannot share a name.
- Optionally add a Description and pick an Icon from the media library. With no icon the name is shown instead.
- Set Most a player can hold. Leave it at 999,999,999 or choose your own cap.
- Leave Show in the top bar ticked if players should always see their balance. Untick it for a currency only a shop window needs.
- Press Create currency. It reaches a running game straight away.
- To sell for it, open Database → NPCs → Shops, pick the shop and choose your currency under Paid in. Every price in that shop is now an amount of it.
- To give it as a reward, add a Change Gold command to an event, set Currency to One of my currencies, pick which one, and set the amount.
Fields#
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | What players see in the top bar and in shop messages. Up to 40 characters, unique, not Silver or Gold |
| Description | A note for you. Up to 200 characters |
| Icon | The picture next to the amount. Any image from the media library |
| Most a player can hold | A whole number from 1 to 1,000,000,000,000. A reward past it stops at the cap |
| Show in the top bar | On: the balance sits in the top bar. Off: it only shows in a shop that is paid in it |
| List order | Lower numbers come first in the top bar |
Gotchas#
- There is no 32-bit limit. Silver and gold stop at 2,147,483,647. A custom currency stops only at the cap you set.
- A reward past the cap stops at the cap. A player 100 under a 1,000 cap who is given 500 ends on 1,000. Lowering the cap later never takes currency a player already holds; they can spend it but not add to it.
- A shop paid in a currency only sells. It does not buy items from players and has no buyback tab.
- Deleting a currency closes its shops. Players keep their balances (they just stop showing) and any shop priced in it stops trading until you pick another currency under Paid in. It never quietly switches to silver.
- A Change Gold command with no currency picked does nothing. It never pays silver by mistake.
- A conversation cannot pay a custom currency. NPC conversations built from the conversation editor pay silver only; use an event for custom currencies.
- At most 24 currencies per project.
- Hosted games: publish after creating a currency so the hosted game has it.
