How players find each other, send friend requests, see who's online, and block players.
Friends & Blocking
The friends list is how players keep track of each other: who's online, which map they're on, and a quick way to whisper them. The same system holds each player's block list.
This is a fixed engine system. It works in every world without any setup, and there are no per-world numbers to tune. Your controls are the feature flag and how the panel looks.
Where to author it#
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Turn the whole system on or off | World → Features → Friends. See Feature Flags |
| Hide or re-skin the panel that holds the Friends tab | Settings → UI / HUD → Panels → Social / Friends. See UI & HUD Editor |
| Preset or lock the player's social settings | Settings → UI / HUD → Panels → Settings, Gameplay tab. See In-Game Settings Panel |
How players use it#
- Open Fellowship → Friends.
- Type at least two letters of a character's name in the search box. The search matches the start of names, shows up to 10 characters, and includes players who are offline.
- Pick a name to send a friend request.
- If the other player is online, they get an invite card and a chat line saying who asked. They accept or decline from the card or from the Pending tab.
- Once they accept, each player shows up on the other's list.
The Friends tab#
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Friends | Online friends first, each with the name of the map they're on, then offline friends. Each row has Whisper, Remove and Block |
| Pending | Friend requests waiting for this player's answer |
| Blocked | Everyone this player has blocked, with the block type and an Unblock button |
When a friend logs in or out, everyone who has them as a friend gets a chat line ("… is now online" or "… went offline"), and the dot beside their name changes.
Removing a friend removes the friendship on both lists.
Blocking#
A player picks the block type from a friend's Block menu:
| Block type | What it actually does |
|---|---|
| Soft block | Ends any friendship between you and puts the player on your Blocked list. They can still send you requests and whisper you |
| Full block | Everything a soft block does. On top of that, their whispers to you are silently dropped (they see no error), and their friend requests are refused with "Unable to send friend request" |
Neither block type hides the blocked player's lines in Say, Zone, Global, Party or Guild chat. Neither stops them inviting you to a party or trade, or duelling you.
Player settings that affect friends#
These live in the player's Settings → Gameplay → Social. You can hide them, lock them or change where they start from the Settings panel editor.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Hide whispers from strangers | Stops whispers from people who aren't friends, guildmates or party members appearing in chat. This only filters what the player sees: the whisper is still delivered |
| Auto-decline party & trade invites | Automatically declines every incoming invite card, including friend requests, guild and alliance invites |
Limits#
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Friends per player | No cap |
| Search | At least 2 characters, prefix match, at most 10 results, never includes yourself |
| Invite card on screen | Disappears after 5 minutes. The request itself stays pending |
| Adding yourself | Refused |
| Duplicate request | Refused with "Friend request already pending" |
| Request to a character that doesn't exist | Refused with "Player not found." |
Gotchas#
- Three ways to send a request. The search box in Fellowship → Friends, Add Friend on a player's right-click menu, and Add Friend on a name in the chat log all do the same thing.
- Only the player who received a request can accept it. The sender sees nothing to accept. Adding someone who has already sent you a request accepts theirs.
- Offline players get the request at their next login. It is saved on the server, and its invite card appears when they log in. The card disappears after 5 minutes, but the request stays in their Pending list until they answer it.
- The Whisper button picks the recipient. It switches chat to the Whisper channel addressed to that friend, so the player just types the message. See Chat.
- Removing a friend never lifts a block. If the other player has blocked you, their block stays.
- Turning Friends off removes the Friends tab. The server then refuses every friend, search and block action. Whispers keep working, because they belong to chat, not to this system.
- The social panel disappears entirely only when Parties, Friends and Guilds are all off.
