A thrown weapon that comes back — hitting on both legs and carrying dropped items home.
Boomerangs
A boomerang is thrown at the cursor and comes back, hitting every enemy it passes on the way out and again on the way home. Like Zelda's, it can also carry dropped items back to the thrower.
Every world has a stock Boomerang weapon type and a Boomerang Throw ability to copy or edit.
Where to author it#
- Database → Items → Weapon Types → Boomerang — the weapon type (its normal attack is Boomerang Throw).
- Database → Abilities → Boomerang Throw → Targeting & AoE — Returns to the caster and
Carries dropped items back.
- Database → Items — make the weapon: type Boomerang, weapon type Boomerang.
Make one#
- Open Database → Items → New, set Type to Boomerang and, on Advanced, **Weapon
Type to Boomerang**.
- Equip it. Its normal attack throws at the cursor: aim at a pack of enemies, or at loot lying
out of reach.
- To tune it, open Database → Abilities → Boomerang Throw: range, damage, speed, and the collect
settings below.
Collecting#
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Returns to the caster | The shot flies out and back, hitting each unit once per leg. Collecting needs it |
| Carries dropped items back | Dropped items the shot passes over on the way out ride it home |
| Items per throw | 1–20 (5 by default) — nearest first along the throw |
| Sweep width | How far from the line an item may lie and still be caught. The shot's own width by default |
Everyone watching sees the items fly home on the boomerang. While an item rides it, nobody else can pick it up. When it gets home it is picked up for the thrower with the ordinary rules — loot ownership, weight and bag space — and anything that cannot be taken simply stays where it was, free for anyone again.
Gotchas#
- Collecting is refused on an ability without Returns to the caster — the save names it.
- Returning shots are single shots: not a volley and not an ability with an area.
- The Throw animation style uses a throw row from the character sheet; a sheet without one
swings one-handed instead.
- Behind the Ability Stages flag, like every returning projectile.
