Scrolls, stones and charms that teleport the player on use — and bind stones that set where they return.
Return Items
A return item takes the player somewhere when they use it: a Return Scroll home to town, a reusable Hearthstone to their bind point, a Waystone that lets them pick a camp. Unlike fast travel it works in combat — that is what it is for — and only a Travel Lock, a monster holding the player, or a map that forbids it stops it.
Any item that is not worn can be one: a scroll, a stone, a quest token.
Where to author it#
Database → Items, open the item, Advanced tab → Return / Teleport.
Make a return scroll#
- Open the item (or make one — a Misc or Potion item works) and go to Advanced.
- Tick Using this item teleports the player.
- Pick where it Takes the player to (see below) and, for A place, pick the Location.
- Set the Cast time and what Breaks it, a Cooldown, and whether it is Used up.
- Save. Using it from the bag or the hotbar now starts the cast bar; when it finishes the player
is moved.
To make a bind stone, tick Sets the bind point instead: using it saves where the player is standing, and any item set to The player's bind point takes them back there.
The fields#
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Takes the player to | A place (a Location you pick: its marker on the map is where they arrive) · The player's bind point · The player's starting location · The nearest spawn point to where they stand · The player chooses from places you tick |
| Place / Places they can choose | The Location(s). A "player chooses" item shows a "Where to?" list when used — up to 12 places |
| Only to places the player has discovered | Off by default: a return scroll works even for a town the player has never visited. On: an undiscovered place refuses (and is left out of a "choose" list) |
| Sets the bind point instead | A bind stone: saves this spot as the player's bind point instead of travelling |
| Cast time | Seconds standing still before leaving. Instant skips the cast bar |
| Broken by | Moving or taking damage (default), Moving, Taking damage, or Nothing |
| Cooldown | Per character, between uses |
| Used up on use | On by default. Off = a reusable stone |
| Works in combat | On by default — the difference from fast travel |
| Ignores Travel Lock | Off by default. For a rare "always works" scroll |
What stops it#
- A Travel Lock status effect (see Status Effects), unless the
item ignores it.
- A hostile monster holding the player: the world's Monsters block teleporting within rule and
any mob's own Blocks teleporting within aura (see Locations).
- A map with Allow teleport items off (the map's properties, under the tier) — for a boss room or
an arena.
- Works in combat off, while the player is in combat.
- An Item Lock effect stops using any item at all.
These are checked when the item is used and again when the cast finishes, so a monster arriving during the cast still stops it. Nothing is spent until the player actually leaves.
Gotchas#
- Instanced dungeons keep using the item's Instance Scroll section; a return item cannot enter
an instance.
- Bind point: a player who has never used a bind stone has none, and a bind-point item tells them
so.
- Starting location: until you author starting locations, this is the world's starting location.
- The cooldown lasts across logging out and back in, until the game server restarts.
- Behind the Return Items flag (on by default). Off = these items do nothing on use.
