Get roles on the ED5 Discord that match your plan and licence, show what you're building on your Discord profile, report problems from Studio, and use the ED5 bot's commands.
Discord: Roles, Status and Reports
Four things link ED5 MMO Studio to Discord:
- Server roles. Connect your Discord account on the website and you join the ED5 Discord server with roles that match your account: Creator, Subscriber, your licence, Affiliate. They keep up by themselves when your plan or licence changes.
- Studio status. While the desktop app is open, your Discord profile shows what you're doing in it, for example "Building a world".
- Report a problem. Send a bug, an idea or a question from Studio. It becomes a post in the ED5 Discord's feedback forum.
- Bot commands. Type
/docs,/download,/statusor/whoamiin the ED5 Discord.
This page is about your account on the ED5 Discord. To post your own game's news (server online, boss slain, world events) to your Discord server, see Discord Announcements.
Connect your Discord account#
- Sign in on the website and open Account → Profile.
- Scroll to Discord and click Connect Discord.
- Discord asks you to allow ED5 MMO Studio to see your username and join servers for you. Click Authorize.
- You land back on your profile with "Discord connected". If you weren't in the ED5 Discord server yet, you're now in it.
- Your roles show as pills under Connected as.
The website asks Discord for nothing else. It can't read your messages, your other servers or your friends list.
The roles#
| Role | Who gets it |
|---|---|
| Creator | Everyone who connects a Discord account. |
| Subscriber | An active paid hosted plan. A trial doesn't count. The role goes when the plan ends. |
| Indie licence / Studio licence / Enterprise licence | One role for each active desktop licence tier you own. |
| Affiliate | An approved affiliate account. |
Roles you got some other way on the server (for example, from a moderator) are never touched. The website only adds and removes the roles in this table.
When roles update#
Roles update by themselves:
- when your subscription starts, changes or ends;
- when you claim a licence key;
- when your affiliate application is approved or its status changes;
- once a day for every connected account, which catches anything the others missed.
Don't want to wait? Click Refresh roles on your profile.
The Discord section#
| Field / button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Connect Discord | Starts the connection (see the steps above). Shown when no Discord account is connected. |
| Connected as | The Discord account linked to your ED5 account. |
| Role pills | The roles your account gives you right now. |
| Refresh roles | Checks your plan, licences and affiliate status and updates your roles straight away. |
| Disconnect | Removes the roles this account gave you and unlinks the Discord account. You stay in the server. Connect again whenever you like. |
Show what you're building on Discord#
The desktop app tells Discord what you're doing, and your Discord profile shows it with how long you've been at it:
| You're… | Your profile says |
|---|---|
| In the project launcher | In the launcher |
| Editing a project | Building a world |
| Playtesting | Playtesting a world |
| Exporting a game | Exporting a game |
It's on by default. The project's name is not shown unless you turn that on. To change either:
- Open File → Studio Settings.
- Under Misc:
- Show what I'm doing on Discord turns the status on or off.
- …including the project's name adds the name of the open project. Off by default, so a project you're keeping secret stays secret.
- Save. The status changes straight away.
Report a problem from Studio#
- In the desktop Studio, open Help → Report a Problem….
- Pick what it is, give it a title and say what happened (or what you'd like).
- Leave Attach the recent Studio log ticked for bugs: it helps us find the cause.
- Click Send report. Studio shows Open it on Discord when the post is up.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| What is it? | Something's broken, an idea, or a question. It sets the post's tag in the forum. |
| Title | The forum post's title. 3 to 100 characters. |
| What happened? | The details: steps to make it happen, what you saw, what you expected. 10 to 3,500 characters. |
| Attach the recent Studio log | Adds the last 64 KB of Studio's log as a file. Before it leaves your computer, passwords, tokens, keys, email addresses and your user folder name are removed. |
The post shows your Studio version and operating system, and names you by your linked Discord account (see Connect your Discord account above). Without a linked account it says "a creator who hasn't linked Discord" and nobody can reply to you there. Your email address is never shown.
Commands in the ED5 Discord#
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/docs query | Finds up to three docs pages for what you typed, with links. |
/download | The latest version of ED5 MMO Studio and where to get it. |
/status | Whether the website, Studio Web, play client, AI and managed servers are running normally. |
/whoami | The roles your connected ED5 account gives you. Only you see the answer. |
Gotchas#
- "That Discord account is already connected to another ED5 account." One Discord account can be connected to one ED5 account only. Disconnect it from the other ED5 account first.
- Connecting a different Discord account replaces the old one. The old Discord account loses the roles.
- "You're not in the ED5 Discord server right now" means you left the server after connecting. Use the Join the server link, then click Refresh roles.
- "Your roles were just updated — try again in a moment." Refresh works once every 30 seconds.
- "That link expired." The Connect button's link lasts 10 minutes. Click Connect Discord again.
- No Discord section on your profile? Discord linking hasn't been switched on for the site yet.
- Deleting your ED5 account disconnects Discord and removes the roles. You stay in the server.
- The Studio status needs the Discord desktop app running on the same computer. Discord in a web browser can't show it. If Discord isn't open when Studio starts, Studio checks again every minute.
- Nothing on your profile? In Discord, open User Settings → Activity Privacy and turn on Share your detected activities with others.
- "Playtesting a world" goes back to "Building a world" 20 minutes after you start the playtest, even if you're still playing.
- Studio Web (the editor in your browser) doesn't show a Discord status. Only the desktop app does.
- Report a Problem needs the desktop Studio and a signed-in ED5 account. In Studio Web, use Help → Support Center. You can send five reports an hour.
- "Problem reports aren't switched on yet" means the ED5 Discord's feedback forum isn't connected yet. Use Help → Support Center instead.
- The forum is public to the ED5 Discord. Don't paste passwords, keys or anything private into the description; only the log is cleaned automatically.
/whoamisays you aren't connected until you connect Discord on Account → Profile.- There is no feature flag. The roles appear once the site has Discord linking set up, and the Studio status is controlled by the two settings above.
